Surgeries

From surgery to recovery, your pet's comfort and care are our top priorities.

Carter Veterinary Hospital and our team of veterinarians are well equipped to perform a wide range of surgical procedures.

Spays and Neuters

Spaying or neutering your pet offers many benefits. It can reduce the risk of certain cancers and diseases later in life and help prevent unwanted behaviors, such as urine spraying or marking, especially if performed early. Spays and neuters are generally done as early as six months of age. Pets are fasted and dropped off in the morning, where the surgeon performs a pre-operative examination before surgery. Pre-anesthetic blood work is offered for each patient and completed prior to the surgery day. This test allows the surgeon to assess your pet’s internal health beyond what is visible on the surface.

During surgery, your pet receives IV fluids to maintain normal blood pressure, and their vital signs are continuously monitored throughout the procedure. Pets are sent home later that day once they are awake and able to walk on their own. Our veterinarians and staff will review all post-operative instructions and answer any questions you may have.

Other Surgeries

Many other surgeries are performed here at Carter Veterinary Hospital, including dentistry (see our dental services page), lump removals, and laceration repairs. Each patient receives a thorough examination before sedation. Throughout all surgical procedures, we continuously monitor your pet’s vital signs.

Our veterinarians are happy to discuss any surgical procedure in detail to ensure you feel comfortable with what is being done and why. If you have any questions about our surgical services or options for your pet, please don’t hesitate to contact us or speak with one of our veterinarians.
